Keith and Kristyn Getty

Not only do their names BOTH start with K... not only are they Irish and have kept a slight, lilting brogue to their accents despite living in the States for 6 yrs... not only do they write Gospel centered music... not only is Keith hilarious during rehearsals (I wish I could accurately quote his quip about Irish boys in a Baptist chapel getting carried away by bars)... but they also have a wee-Getty that they parent while on the road!!!
That little girl is so lucky to grow up with all that amazing music.

I was in the back up choir for the first showing of Joy: An Irish Christmas, last night. And I thoroughly enjoyed it... even though I felt outclassed at EVERY turn. I'm musical enough to appreciate real talent... but sadly unmusical enough to be any good. Last night I found out how much I can't actually read music unless I can hear my first few notes... unfortunately... the acoustic engineers for the chapel choir loft assumed choir members didn't need to hear themselves, the audience was more important. Hah!

In one of the portions where we did not participate, I was almost surprised into tears by a reading that Kristyn did. And though I'm supposed to be writing my last 13 pages of the semester...  I googled it.

And found the poem!!!
I'm including it so you too can get a taste of the lovely lilt, with the wonderful words.

I look towards the wintering trees
To hush my fretful soul
As they rise to face the icy sky
And hold fast beneath the snow
Their rings grow wide, their roots go deep
That they might hold their height
And stand like valiant soldiers
Through the watches of the night

No human shoulder ever bears
The weight of all the world
But hearts can sink beneath the ache
Of trouble's sudden surge
Yet far beyond full knowing
There's a strong unsleeping light
That reaches round to hold me
Through the watches of the night

I have cried upon the steps that seem
Too steep for me to climb
And I've prayed against a burden
I did not want to be mine
But here I am and this is where
You're calling me to fight
And You I will remember
Through the watches of the night
You I will remember
Through the watches of the night

"I prayed against a burden, I did not want to be mine" ...sigh...
The end reminded me of Psalm 130... "More than watchmen wait for morning"

yikes...

Um... so this morning I decided that instead of just feeling that horrible feeling of impending doom (there is only a week and a bit left of my first semester of seminary).... I decided to write out what was actually due on November 30th. Just to get it out there... and so I could schedule these things into my more than 30 hours a week at work...

- personal evangelism
--seven encounters write up
--chapel attendance
--encounter assessment

- family leadership
--three papers (6-6-10pgs)
--two lectures
--two postings

- foundations in worship
-- make worship service
--power point
--take home final

-systematic theology
--final
--last paper

AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

.... on second thought (since it's my day off today) I might just go do my laundry and clean my room. It's not like I actually need this masters degree...
